Fried Rice Vermicelli [88]

I was reading a cookbook the other day and found another version of fried bee hoon (炒米粉). It is just as easy as the other method.

Fried Rice Vermicelli

This dish can be cooked with many different ingredients, meat, egg or vegetables. If you are cooking for 1-2 person, I suggest buying A1 Rice Vermicelli as it comes in a pack of 10 bundles of 50g rice vermicelli. You only need 10 minutes to soak the rice vermicelli.


100g Rice Vermicell (bee hoon)
4 leaves cabbage (beijing or round)
1 strip char siew (optional)
1 egg
1 tsp light soy sauce
1 tsp dark soy sauce
1 tbsp cooking oil
1 clove of garlic
1/4 cup hot water


  1. Soak Rice Vermicell in room temperature water for 10 minutes or hot water in 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Wash and slice the cabbage and char siew into strips, set aside.
  3. Heat up the cooking oil in a frying pan, add garlic and fry until fragrant. If you don’t like garlic, remove it at this point.
  4. Add in the egg and stir until cooked. Set aside. Add char siew and cabbage into the frying pan, cook for about 5-7 minutes over high heat to warm up the food. Transfer the meat and vegetables to a dish, set aside.
  5. In the same frying pan, add water, light soy sauce and dark soy sauce and bring to a boil. Lower the heat.
  6. Add in the rice vermicilli and toss well. Stir fry for 8 minutes or until the rice vermicilli is no longer wet.
  7. Return the egg, vegetables and char siew to the pan, toss the rice vermicilli to combine with all the vegetables.
  8. Transfer to a plate and serve immediately.
