Soup: Mixed Vegetable Soup[52]

mixed veg soup-1.jpgI have always thought that the mixed vegetable soup that I learnt from my mum is 罗宋汤 or that it is the same as ABC soup. It was only after many googling that I discovered that 罗宋汤 originated from Russia – Borscht and has tomato paste listed as one of its ingredients. ABC soup is without the cabbage and has corn instead. The only blogger that calls it 罗宋汤 & ABC soup is Echo’s Kitchen from Malaysia and my mum is from Malaysia.

Mixed Vegetable Soup


  • 250g lean pork
  • 10 leaves cabbage
  • 1 carrot, peel & slice
  • 1 large potato, peel & cut
  • 1 onion, peel & cut
  • 1 tomato
  • 750ml water
  • salt to taste


  1. In a pot, add the water and bring it to a boil. Add the meat and boil for about 10 minutes.
  2. Cut the potato into bigger pieces so it will not disintegrate after boiling. Cut tomato into big pieces and set aside.
  3. Add cabbage, potato, carrot and onion into the pot, lower the heat and let the soup simmer for 35 minutes. Add tomato and boil for another 5 minutes.
  4. Season with salt and turn off the heat after 2 minutes. The soup is ready to be served.
