Soup: Napa Cabbage with Meatballs [34]

I like to cook this soup when the napa cabbage (大白菜) from Australia is in stock in my supermarket. This is a simple dish and though it looks plain, it is a great comforting dish.

Napa cabbage offers a wide range of health benefits. It is loaded with antioxidants, great source of folic acid, rich in vitamin C & vitamin K (for healthy bones) and plentiful of dietary fiber.

Napa Cabbage Soup with Meatballs

You can replace fuzhou fish balls with plain fish balls.


  • 10 leaves of napa cabbage, washed and cut
  • 12 fuzhou fish balls, blanched in hot water
  • 100g minced meat
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp potato flour
  • 500 ml water


  1. In a bowl, add light soy sauce and potato flour to the minced meat. Mix well and roll into walnut sized balls.
  2. In a pot, bring 500 ml of water to a boil. Add the minced meat and cook for 10 minutes. Add the napa cabbage. Continue to boil until the cabbage softened. Then add the fish balls. Continue to boil for another 15 minutes or longer if you prefer softer napa cabbage. Serve.
